Docker: An open source project to pack, ship and run any application as a lightweight container reddit.com

I have a docker-compose file with the following content:

services: ... myContainer: ... environment: - my_variable=hello ...

I am starting this with:

docker-compose up -d

After that I attach a shell to the container (myContainer).

From within the newly created shell I had expected be able to see a environment variable named "my_variable" with value "hello".

Is there a step I am missing here ??
